Mandrel Bench privacy policy
The short version
Mandrel Bench does not collect, store, share or sell any personal information. The app has no permission to use the internet, so it cannot send anything anywhere.
What the app stores
The sizes you enter, the mandrels you save, your place in a knot and your settings are saved in the app's own storage on your phone. They are not sent to us or to anyone else. If you uninstall the app, they are deleted with it. If your phone backs up app data to your Google account, Android may include this data in that backup; that is handled by Google under your Google account settings, not by Mandrel Bench.
Printing
When you print a knot grid or a stitch layout, the app hands the pages to Android's print service. You choose where they go, such as a printer or a PDF file, and that is covered by the printer's or app's own terms.
Sharing
When you tap a share button, the app hands a plain-text cut list, run list or hole layout to Android's share menu. Where it goes from there is your choice, and is covered by the privacy terms of the app you share to.
Sending feedback
Send feedback, in the menu at the top right, opens your own email app with a draft addressed to the developer. The draft lists the app version, the screen you were on, your chosen units, and your phone's model and Android version, so a problem can be reproduced. You can edit or delete any of it, and nothing is sent until you send the email yourself.
Once, after your last free print or your last free hands-free knot, the app asks what would make Mandrel Bench Pro worth buying. Answering opens the same kind of email draft, and nothing is sent unless you send it. Whatever you choose, the question does not appear again.
Buying Pro and pattern packs
Mandrel Bench Pro (hands-free tying, printing at true size, and sharing without the "Made with Mandrel Bench" line) and the pattern packs (extra over-under patterns for the knot grid) are bought through Google Play, which handles the payment under its own terms. Mandrel Bench never sees your payment details. The app asks the Google Play app on your phone for the prices and what has been bought, and keeps that answer, and how many of your free prints and hands-free knots you have used, in its own storage on the phone. Google's billing library normally sends Google reports about how its purchase functions are working; Mandrel Bench leaves that part out, so the app still has no internet access.
Reading steps aloud
In hands-free mode the app can read each step aloud. It does this with the text-to-speech service built into your phone: the words of the step, such as "Pass 5, up to top pin 1, over, under", are passed to that service on your device. Mandrel Bench does not send them anywhere itself. Reading aloud is off until you turn it on.
No accounts, ads or tracking
There is no sign-in, no advertising, no analytics and no crash-reporting service. The app works entirely offline.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 and collects no information from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with a new date.
