Bead Bench privacy policy

Last updated 24 October 2026. Applies to the Bead Bench app for Android (package com.jdcap.beads).

The short version

Bead Bench does not collect, store, share or sell any personal information. Everything you make stays on your device.

What the app stores

Your patterns, your progress through them and your settings are saved in the app's own storage on your phone. They are not sent to us or to anyone else. If you uninstall the app, they are deleted with it. If your phone backs up app data to your Google account, Android may include this data in that backup; that is handled by Google under your Google account settings, not by Bead Bench.

Photos

When you turn a photo into a pattern, you choose the picture yourself. The app reads it on your phone to work out bead colors and does not upload it or keep a copy. Only the resulting bead pattern is saved.

Reading steps aloud

In hands-free mode the app can read each step aloud. It does this with the text-to-speech service built into your phone: the words of the step, such as "3 Opaque Red", are passed to that service on your device. Bead Bench does not send them anywhere itself. You can turn reading aloud off in Settings.

Buying Pro and pattern packs

Bead Bench Pro and each pattern pack are one-time purchases made through Google Play. Google handles the payment under its own terms, and Bead Bench never sees your payment details. The patterns in every pack come with the app, so buying one downloads nothing from us. To know what you own, the app asks Google Play on your phone; nothing about your purchases is sent to us. How many free uses of each Pro feature you have left, and which packs you own, is kept in the app's storage on your phone, like your patterns.

Once, when a free use runs out, the app asks what would make Pro worth it. If you choose to answer, it opens a draft in your email app, with the app version, phone model and Android version filled in. Nothing is sent unless you send that email yourself.

Google's billing library normally includes a part that reports how the library is used to Google. Bead Bench leaves that part out, so the app sends no such reports.

Sharing

When you tap a share button, the app hands a picture, text or file to Android's share menu. Where it goes from there is your choice, and is covered by the privacy terms of the app you share to.

No accounts, ads or tracking

There is no sign-in, no advertising, no analytics and no crash-reporting service. The app works without an internet connection; only buying or restoring Pro or a pattern pack needs Google Play to be online.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13 and collects no information from anyone.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with a new date.
